Avoiding hepatitis C
There is no vaccine for hepatitis C - but there are things you can do to make sure you don't get it.

Treat ALL blood as infectious
It doesn't matter whose blood it is
You can never tell by looking at someone whether they have hepatitis C

How?

Be blood aware

Put latex or rubber gloves on to clean up blood accidents.
Follow the 'Blood Rule' in sport

Leave the ground if you are bleeding
Dress the wound and clean up the blood
Use gloves to handle anything with blood on it

Make sure tattoo and body piercing equipment is sterile
A tattoo artist or body piercer should be using single-use disposable needles, dye tubs, surgical gloves, It is also important that all the rest of the equipment is cleaned and the area (couch, benches etc) is also cleaned thoroughly.

Never share any injecting equipment

Don't share personal items such as nail clippers, razors or toothbrushes - they might have tiny amounts of blood on them

Don't be a 'blood brother or sister'
